Course Description
This course intends to build on introductory project management skills to form a solid grounding in the nine project management knowledge areas. This industry independent learning within the project arena includes the following topics: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, integration management, scope management, schedule management, cost management, quality management, resource management, communications management, risk management, procurement management and stakeholder management. Cost, scope, schedule, quality, and procurement receive special emphasis in this course. Students will align the topics to strive for the attainment of project objectives within the agreed limits of resources.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will relate the processes that lead to successful project outcomes by:
- synthesizing the environment and given objectives to project management processes.
- devising an appropriate life cycle for the project.
- explaining an understanding of project structures and strategies.
- organizing work breakdown structure concepts to project processes.
- elaborating the processes to closure, including Agile Project techniques.
- The student will relate managerial knowledge areas that enable the proper execution of project management by:
- modeling the relevance and application of integration of approaches to improve outcomes while limiting resource usage, costs, and reducing the time period needed to reach completion.
- developing appropriate Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
- explaining and debating the quality, risk, and control options so that the project has an increased probability of success.
- demonstrating the benefits of improved approaches to project procurement, execution, communication, and scope management.
- The student will evaluate the use and delivery options of project processes by:
- considering appropriate selection of techniques and initiation processes to optimize the contribution to organizational strategy, purpose, mission, and values.
- assessing relevant tactics to promote change management, delivery of resources and materials, and refine relevant requirements.
- discriminating between alternate routes and set execution to achieve optimal outcomes by responding to resource challenges, alterations in the environment, results of measurement and reporting, and the need for corrective action across the execution spectrum.
- electing appropriate methods of documentation and communication to facilitate closure with stakeholders, to foster learning and competence of individuals while maintaining a high standard of ethics, professionalism, and legal process.
- negotiating agreement within ethical and professional standards in the industry.
- The student will select and evaluate the managerial options and project frameworks that promote project progress to objectives for different scenarios by:
- analyzing needs and applying appropriate methods to deliver strategic values, practices, and documentation.
- detecting needs and choosing appropriate assumptions, measurement systems, resource plans, organization, and stakeholder approval.
- differentiating options and employing efficient options to commit and monitor resources, achieving effectiveness, leading and managing teams, communicating with stakeholders and resource providers.
- detecting and examining the status of the project so that one can achieve closure with stakeholders, releasing appropriate resources, transitioning to an operational state, while processing artifacts and complying with legal requirements.
- employing relevant ethical, legal and professional standards to achieve an equitable outcome while recognizing all forms of diversity.
- The student will synthesize optimal courses of action based on general options, with special emphasis on risk, cost, scope, schedule, quality, and procurement to achieve objectives within planned resource allocations by:
- constructing accurate budgets and estimates of costs, implications of project scope, the need for appropriate quality standards, and effective supply chains.
- devising contingency positions for changes in costs, scope, quality requirements and supplies and resources.
- formulating plans that accommodate and forecast the implications of risk and allow for agile approaches to limit implications and optimize mitigation options.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
