Course Description
This course will explore and analyze the proposal-writing process.This course also examines the process of identifying resources to fund grant proposals. The student will identify the eleven (11) steps for creating a successful proposal. The student will also examine the importance of creating strong networking and collaboration to accomplish organizational and community needs.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will identify alternative sources of funding by:
- exploring federal on-line sources of funding through the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Department of Justice as related to student's specific grant proposal project.
- researching state and local funding as related to student's specific grant proposal project.
- exploring corporate and nonprofit funding opportunities available as related to student's specific grant proposal project.
- The student will examine proposal preparation to funders by:
- exploring grant available opportunities and agency resources specific to student's specific grant proposal project.
- identifying specific requirements of available grant opportunities.
- documenting specific details based on proposal guidelines.
- documenting all components of the grant proposal to include budget, measurable data and evaluation.
- The student will examine grant administrative process by:
- documenting internal functions and department personnel that are crucial to effective project implementation of the grant proposal.
- identifying the professional working relationship between internal organizatonal management and the funder.
- confirming a thorough detailed section and grammar review of the documented grant proposal including revisions/amendments.
- ensuring proposal timeline is in place and there is a system for accurate record keeping and budgeting.
- The student will examine the importance of collaboration and community partnerships by:
- exploring organizations that are working on similar projects and are willing to support the student's agency project to achieve a common goal.
- identifying organizations that are supportive of the student's agency project and would be willing to help with the support of the agency project, i.e. provide a donation, help with fundraising.
- gaining support of community leaders who will support or confirm the importance of the student's agency project.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
