Course Description

This course is designed to provide students with the basic skills to manage Windows Servers in an on-premises, cloud, or hybrid configuration. This course focuses on how to package, update, secure, deploy, configure, and troubleshoot Windows Servers and implement PowerShell, Hyper-V, containers, storage solutions, high availability and disaster recovery in a Windows Server environment. It will also help you master the skills and knowledge you're going to need to sit for the Microsoft AZ-800: Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure certification.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will deploy the Microsoft Windows Server operating system by:
    1. installing and performing post-installation configuration tasks on Windows Server.
    2. upgrading and migrating server workloads in a hybrid environment.
    3. configuring the Windows registry and Windows services.
    4. performing initial configuration on Windows Server.
  2. The student will implement and maintain Windows Active Directory by:
    1. creating domain accounts, local accounts, user profiles, and group accounts.
    2. deploying and managing Windows Server containers.
    3. describing domain controllers, forests, child domains, operation master roles, domain vs. workgroup, and trust relationships.
    4. configuring group policies and assigning user rights.
    5. synchronizing user credentials and accounts in Azure AD (Active Directory).
  3. The student will demonstrate Microsoft Virtualization technologies by:
    1. describing server virtualization and Hyper-V architecture.
    2. installing and configuring Hyper-V.
    3. configuring virtual machine (VM) settings.
    4. configuring Hyper-V storage and networking.
    5. creating Windows Server container images.
  4. The student will apply storage solutions by:
    1. describing storage technologies and their typical usage scenarios.
    2. configuring disks and volumes.
    3. implementing server storage and data deduplication.
    4. managing storage with Server Manager and Windows PowerShell.
  5. The student will monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server by:
    1. identifying major server hardware components.
    2. describing performance monitoring methodology and procedures.
    3. describing the troubleshooting methodology and process.
    4. deciphering performance logs, alerts, and Event Viewer.
    5. configuring virtual machine monitoring.

Criteria Performance Standard

These course objectives will be tested by using the industry standard Microsoft exams on Microsoft Windows Server and/or by using tests developed by the publisher. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will, with a minimum 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by the individual course instructors.
