Admission to Veterinary Practice Management (Certificate with Financial Aid Eligibility) (VETTC-CT)) and
Prerequisite ATE 3052 with a minimum grade of C

Course Description

This course is part of the managerial track in the BAS program in veterinary technology. It will give the student an understanding of the legal and ethical aspects of veterinary practice.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will analyze laws in veterinary medicine by:
    1. researching an animal law case and preparing and presenting a legal brief .
    2. explaining how laws affect the way veterinary medicine is practiced
  2. The student will apply a systematic method for ethical decision making in a veterinary situation by:
    1. deconstructing an ethical dilemma in a veterinary setting.
    2. associating key veterinary practice values.
  3. The student will examine basic veterinary legal concepts by:
    1. discussing legal situations that impact veterinarians, staff, clients, and pets in the work place.
    2. communicating effectively about the laws that affect the veterinary profession both orally and in writing.
  4. The student will identify differences in animal laws in countries outside the United States by:
    1. researching and discussing legislation and legal issues pertaining to other countries.
    2. comparing and contrasting US laws with those of other countries.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
