Course Description

This course provides an overview into the various learning styles and platforms used for adult learning. Styles may include face-to-face, blended, online, live online, and hybrid, as well as the various technology tools which support these learning platforms. Educators develop learning objects which can be integrated into these various platforms as well as identify when best to apply each platform for effective learning environments. Learning design tasks for this course will also include task analysis, measurable performance objectives, lesson designs, and course material development.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will recognize the foundational principles of human learning by:
    1. assessing the needs of the learner
    2. identifying the various learning styles of adults
    3. identifying the key learning tasks for specific content
    4. designing and developing measurable performance learning objectives
  2. The student will describe the ideal platform to be leveraged for learning by:
    1. determining when each learning style (face-to-face, blended, online, live online, and hybrid) is most effective
    2. differentiating between hybrid and blended learning
    3. analyzing pedagogical approaches and determining when it is best to implement a specific instructional strategy
  3. The student will create fully developed educational lessons that maximize learning within various platforms by:
    1. designing accessible and user-friendly lessons for various learning platforms
    2. identifying course materials that support learning in various platforms
    3. developing learning objects which clearly communicate ideas and concepts intended for learning in various platforms
    4. identifying effective technology tools that support learning within various platforms
    5. identifying learning design tools to optimize course navigation
    6. comparing and contrasting different learning management systems that offer educational materials and opportunities for various learning styles
    7. designing and developing content-specific presentations and innovative instructional methods for a course module in any platform
    8. designing and developing a variety of dynamic assessments, including individual and within a group, for a course module in a specific platform
    9. designing and developing project-based learning objects and problem-solving activities for a course module in a specific platform

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 75% accuracy, demonstrate
mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual
