Course Description
This course teaches basic concepts of financial management, terminology, and problem-solving methods necessary to manage a veterinary organization.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will explore how current major issues in finance and accounting impact veterinary organizations by:
- summarizing the current major issues facing finance and accounting.
- analyzing how current major issues in finance and accounting impact veterinary organizations.
- The student will relate financial management concepts to financial decisions faced by a practice manager by:
- interpreting a balance sheet.
- applying the information found in the income statement and cash flow statements to decision making and planning.
- The student will breakdown the financial profile of an organization by:
- analyzing a multiple year budget.
- illustrating the revenue cycle as it applies to a veterinary business
- preparing expense projections
- evaluating inventory accounting issues.
- comparing published benchmark data to a veterinary practice.
- preparing a break-even analysis for a veterinary business
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
