Course Description
This course covers various needs of the human services client. Case management with children and families, elderly, chronically mentally ill, developmentally and physically disabled, and those in health care settings will be discussed. Skills in case management will be covered as well as some research on case management.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will explain the basics of Case Management as it pertains to Human Services by:
- discussing the various aspects of case management utilized as guidelines for working with clients.
- analyzing the basic case management structure and tools used in the field.
- examining the ethical value systems that are basic to the Human Services field.
- The student will utilize Case Management theory with various clients by:
- analyzing effective communication that can be used in the Human Services field.
- critiquing the components and effective implementation of a treatment plan.
- assessing a strength based approach to management used with clients.
- discussing various issued that arise when working with diverse populations.
- The student will apply critical thinking skills, ethical principles and reasonable decision making to problem solving in Human Services by:
- analyzing theories and case management skills to case vignettes.
- comparing and contrasting options available in working with clients and critically analyzing the pros and cons of each method/option.
- evaluating ethical pitfalls and how to respond within the Human Services field.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
