Course Description
This course focuses on the transition of the licensed practical nurse to the professional registered nurse, and care coordination with members of the health care team in a variety of settings. Students will be introduced to the importance of quality improvement (QI) and outline the basic skills needed for the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and clinical judgement processes.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will outline the basic process of evidence-based practice and quality improvement by:
- Describing the evidence-based process.
- Explaining the purpose and process of quality improvement in the healthcare setting.
- Comparing and contrasting the nursing process with clinical judgement.
- The student will describe the role transition to the professional registered nurse, and care coordination with members of the health care team by:
- Explaining the role of the professional registered nurse.
- Discussing the scope of practice of the professional registered nurse.
- Explaining the purpose of the Florida Board of Nursing.
- Relating the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics to patient care.
- Summarizing the basic ethical and legal implications for the professional registered nurse.
- Explaining the importance of the Florida nursing Practice Act in promoting patient safety.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 80% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom/lab/clinical measures developed by individual course instructors.
