Course Description

This course is an open format course designed to address the needs and interests of students and provide an opportunity to either obtain industry certification or prepare for an industry certification exam as it relates to the environmental field. Topics may vary from semester to semester. (Note: This course may not be repeated for credit towards major requirements).

Course Topics

Industry Cert.
  Obtainment or preparation for industry certifications relevant in the field of environmental science may include, but not limited to EPA, OSHA, FL DEP certifications.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will explain the special topic area within the field of environmental sciences by:
    1. describing the skills and knowledge needed to work in special topics field area.
    2. developing a list of employment opportunities associated with the particular special topics area.
    3. developing a preparation plan to enter the field related to the special topics area.
  2. The student will work to obtain an industry certification applicable to environmental science by:
    1. Successfully earning the particular industry certification or completing preparatory work leading to taking an industry exam.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the stated objects through either classroom measures developed by individual course instructors and/or obtain industry certification.
