Course Description

This course is a study of the instructor's responsibility in idea communication, learning and teaching concepts, job analysis, teaching objectives and instructional aids use. This course is required to become eligible to sit for the Florida State Fire Officer certification exam.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will demonstrate several teaching concepts and select an effective method by:
    1. explaining the four steps in teaching.
    2. explaining the role of a training instructor in a program.
  2. The student will communicate principles and ideas to the student by:
    1. describing how to overcome normal inhibitions when speaking before peers.
    2. identifying the rules of learning.
    3. explaining the criteria for selection of A-V material.
    4. effectively using two A-V aids.
  3. The student will understand the important points of job analysis by:
    1. explaining how fire department rules affect training.
    2. identifying ten areas covered in company training.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 80% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
