Course Description
This course provides students the opportunity to review for their national credentialing exams. Weekly assignments and instructor led discussions will assist the students with their test preparations by helping them recall course content and related concepts, study strategies, and ways to identify additional resources to help prepare for certification.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will assess their readiness for an entry-level certification exam by:
- completing practice review exams based on college curriculum or competencies outlined by the organization administering the certification exam.
- testing with the CD/online software included with the review book.
- researching the various credentialing exams available for Health Information Technology (HIT) professionals.
- familiarizing themselves with the domains and content areas required of the credentialing exam.
- The student will develop test-taking techniques by:
- studying the exam guide to understand how the exam is designed and create a personal study schedule that aligns with the credentialing exam guide to cover all content by the end of the course.
- analyzing testing strategies and determine the most effective method for themselves.
- eliminating answers they know are not correct when completing the exam guide.
- The student will analyze domains, subdomains, and tasks pertaining to subject material by:
- reviewing the material and understanding the concepts related to each domain.
- listening to the audio portion of the review guide, if and when available.
- researching the domains that are assigned through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) organization and note any upcoming changes.
- The student will validate entry level curriculum competencies learned throughout the program by:
- recalling and applying concepts such as the overview of Healthcare, Health Information Technology, Informatics, Analytics, Electronic Data Use, Coding, Reimbursement, Statistics, and Leadership.
- displaying critical thinking skills regarding issues in the Health Information Technology Profession.
- using the pre-test or post -test to identify strengths and opportunities to adjust individual study habits and locate additional resources, when necessary.
- earning a minimum of 75% percent on the mock credentialing exam in the course.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 78% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructions
