Course Description

This course examines the operations of a human services agency and its management, including the role of strategic planning and governance, clinical and non-clinical support services related to human services programs, quality improvement, fiscal operations, and information technology of the organizational structure.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. Students will examine various organizational management and leadership theories in human services administration by:
    1. Evaluating various management roles and styles in leadership and supervision as related to human services administration
    2. Identifying leadership qualities that facilitate inclusive and equitable organizational structures and processes
    3. Discussing theory and using terminology relevant to organizational systems in human services
  2. Students will explore basic concepts and functions of human services administration related to human services programs and agencies by:
    1. Analyzing community relations, partnership collaborations, and governance as related to human services administration
    2. Examining program planning and evaluation of human services programs
  3. Students will apply strategies to manage the internal financial controls, including financial planning, budgeting, fiscal operations, and management of a human services agency by:
    1. Demonstrating skills in strategic planning management related to human services administration
    2. Developing long-range planning of budget management within human services agencies
  4. Students will examine social issues in human services administration by:
    1. Exploring best practices to evaluate relevant technologies in human service administration delivery
    2. Analyzing data trends for attracting and hiring qualified employees in human services occupations
    3. Identifying and discussing funding opportunities through non-profit, federal governmental agencies, state governmental agencies, and charitable organizations as related to human services administration

Criteria Performance Standard

For successful completion of this course, the student will receive a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of the objectives and measures developed by the course instructors.
