Course Description
This course covers advanced principles, theories and applications in crime scene technology. Specialized collection procedures of weapons, traffic crash evidence, arson, gunshot residue, blood spatter, and recovery of buried bodies and surface skeletons are also included. Data analysis, reporting and plan of action development are emphasized.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill in specialized crime scene procedures by:
- utilizing correct weapons collection procedures.
- collecting traffic crash evidence.
- recovering buried bodies and surface skeletons.
- applying specialized processing techniques:
- gunshot residue
- blood spatter
- arson/incendiary devices
- The student will develop abilities and skills in preparing crime scene related documents by:
- documenting with personal notes.
- writing reports in accepted police format.
- diagramming crime scene using computers.
- dictating reports.
- generating reports using computer software.
- The student will coordinate with other investigative personnel and agencies by:
- analyzing all known data to implement plan of action.
- implementing the plan of action by coordinating with other investigative personnel/agencies.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 70 percent accuracy, demonstrate achievement of the above objectives through classroom measures (to include multiple-choice objective and short answer essay tests and mock crime scene exercises) developed by individual instructors.
