Course Description
This course provides opportunities to explore special topics related to the aging process and care of the aging population in acute care and community settings.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will relate underlying changes in older adults to changes in physical and mental status by:
- reviewing physiological changes that occur due to aging;
- identifying barriers for older adults to give and receive information;
- discussing the effects of reduced mobility due to changes from aging.
- The student will evaluate standardized assessment tools commonly used with older adults by:
- critiquing standardized assessment tools designed for use with older adults;
- examining an older adult using a standardized assessment tool.
- The student will identify technology to enhance home healthcare of older adults by:
- describing potential benefits and risks of using technology for enhancing older adults functioning and independence;
- critically appraising technology resources to assist older adults.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
