Course Description
This course provides an examination of various legal traditions and systems of the world. International law and transboundary issues will be discussed. Substantive and procedural laws will be examined. Availability of resources will be emphasized.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic substantive and procedural principals of political entities which possess common law systems by:
- identifying the political entities that employ a common law legal system and how they were developed in that political entity.
- describing how each studied political entity employs the common law system.
- explaining the differences and similarities with other common law political entities.
- explaining the basic criminal and civil substantive and procedural laws of each common law political entity.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic substantive and procedural principals of political entities which possess civil law systems by:
- identifying the political entities that employ a civil law legal system and how they were developed in that political entity.
- describing how each studied political entity employs the civil law system.
- explaining the differences and similarities with other civil law political entities.
- explaining the differences and similarities with other civil law political entities.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic substantive and procedural principals of political entities which possess Islamic legal systems by:
- identifying the political entities that employ an Islamic legal system and how they were developed in that political entity.
- describing how each studied political entity employs the Islamic legal system.
- explaining the differences and similarities with other Islamic legal system political entities.
- explaining the basic criminal and civil substantive and procedural laws of each Islamic legal system political entity.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the basic substantive and procedural principles of political entities which possess tribal law systems by:
- identifying the political entities that employ a tribal custom legal systems and how they were developed in that political entity.
- describing how each studied political entity employs the tribal custom legal systems.
- explaining the differences and similarities with other tribal custom legal systems.
- explaining the criminal and civil substantive and procedural laws of each tribal custom legal systems.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of the above objectives through classroom measurements developed by individual instructors.
