Course Description
Program strongly recommends completion of General Education Math requirement prior to taking CGS 1515. This course will provide students with hands-on experience and skills with a spreadsheet. Students will learn the various functions and commands of the spreadsheet as well as how to plan, create, and program spreadsheets for common business applications. It is appropriate for accounting and business majors, programmers and spreadsheet application developers.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will create a complex spreadsheet to achieve business standards by:
- Planning the structure and format
- Applying financial, lookup, statistical and logical functions
- Constructing formulas using absolute, relative and mixed cell referencing
- The student will analyze data by:
- Designing graphs and charts to compare and contrast data
- Applying advanced functions, formulas and rules
- Solving “what if”, “goal-seek” and other problems
- Creating pivot tables and pivot charts
- The student will use tools to eliminate detailed, repetitive routines by:
- Creating/writing macros
- Editing/deleting macros using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
