Course Description
This course provides the student with ways to understand and apply fundamentals of systems analysis to the development of information systems used in business, government or nonprofit environments. The student will become familiar with a range of techniques for systems analysis. The student will be made aware of the importance of developing good human relations skills and the need to understand and deal with the social and political culture in organizations in the course of system analysis and design.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will identify organizational and business context of systems development by:
- demonstrating communication and presentation skills aligned with the business strategic plans.
- explaining how systems projects are managed.
- discussing and explaining the social and political aspects of organizations.
- The student will define the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and its role in developing a system by understanding and using a comprehensive process for developing a system by:
- explaining and applying structured analysis including but not limited to:
- Systems planning.
- Systems Security.
- Support.
- Maintenance.
- The student will apply traditional and emerging approaches to systems development and associated analysis tools by:
- explaining and applying systems development methodologies.
- describing logical versus physical models.
- discussing and/or producing a variety of Systems Analysis tools and diagrams.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
