Course Description
This course explores the role of the interpreter in the K-12 educational setting. Issues related to institutional policies, potential role conflicts, interpreter/faculty collaboration, and support service provision in the K-12 educational setting will be emphasized.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will apply knowledge of K-12 institutional policies within various educational levels related to interpreting and deaf education by:
- describing K-12 institutional policies on a written test.
- The student will describe the issues related to interpreter roles in the K-12 educational setting by:
- listing the standards of the Educational Interpreter's Code of Ethics in written testing.
- applying the standards of the Code of Ethics in role-play situations.
- The student will apply effective interpreter/faculty collaboration and support service provision in the K-12 educational setting by:
- describing three strategies for faculty awareness training about deafness and interpreting in written testing .
- analyzing three techniques of support service provisions in written testing.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
