Course Description
This course focuses on the development of more advanced voicing skills in interpreting for deaf people in the K-12 classroom environment. Special emphasis is given to interpreting from American Sign Language to grade appropriate spoken English.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will develop advanced skills in voicing a signed message in the K-12 classroom environment from American Sign Language (ASL) to appropriate spoken English by:
- voicing selected media produced presentations and live presentations in spoken English with 70 percent accuracy.
- transcribing selected media produced presentations into written English with 70 percent accuracy.
- The student will demonstrate knowledge a range of sign modalities in the K-12 classroom environment used by deaf individuals by:
- describing advanced sign language through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
- identifying advanced sign modalities within selected media produced presentations and live presentations with 70 percent accuracy.
- The student will match appropriate vocabulary choices to the signer and the interpreted situation in the K-12 classroom environment by:
- identifying appropriate vocabulary for selected signers through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
- identifying appropriate vocabulary for selected interpreting situations through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives for selected interpreting situations through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
