Course Description
This course focuses on the development of primary sign to voice interpreting skills for deaf people in the K-12 classroom environment. The course focuses on voicing from a signed Contact Language to grade appropriate spoken English.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of conveying a message in the K-12 classroom environment from American Sign Language (ASL) to an appropriate English equivalent by:
- identifying appropriately voiced vocabulary in English from selected media and live presentations with 70 percent accuracy.
- describing appropriate voicing dynamics through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
- The student will develop basic voicing skills in the K-12 classroom environment interpreting from ASL to English by:
- voicing selected media produced and live presentations into spoken English with 70 percent accuracy.
- transcribing selected media produced presentations into written English with 70 percent accuracy.
- The student will develop voicing skills in transliterating Signed English to English in the K-12 classroom environment by:
- voicing selected media produced and live presentations into spoken English with 70 percent mastery.
- transcribing selected media produced presentations into written English with 70 percent accuracy.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of sign modalities used by deaf individuals in the K-12 classroom environment by:
- describing varying modalities through written testing with 70 percent accuracy.
- identifying varying modalities within selected media produced and live presentations with 70 percent accuracy.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will, with minimum 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by the individual course instructors.
