Course Description
This seminar type course will review all necessary procedures and requirements for state and national licensure as a Funeral Director and Embalmer.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of the responsibilities and duties of the funeral director by:
- explaining the functions of an effective manager for a funeral home.
- contrasting the variations of funeral customs based on cultural and geographic differences.
- explaining the basic principles of merchandising in funeral home.
- identifying the historical and sociological issues which affect funeral service.
- identifying the legal relationships, rights, duties and liabilities between the funeral director and the dead human body.
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of the responsibilities and duties of the embalmer by:
- contrasting the necessary steps in chemically treating the dead human body.
- explaining the techniques of creating an acceptable appearance of the deceased.
- identifying pathological diseases and how they affect various body parts.
- outlining the basic principles of chemistry as they relate to funeral service.
- outlining the principles of sanitation and disinfection as they relate to embalming practices.
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of the rules and regulations for licensure as a funeral director and embalmer by:
- preparing an application for the national board examination.
- outlining the procedure for licensure as a funeral director and embalmer for the State of Florida.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 75% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by the individual course instructor.
