Admission to Funeral Arts (Advanced Technical Certificate with Financial Aid Eligibility) (FUNAT-ATC)) and
Pre- or Co-requisite FSE 1150

Course Description

Computer competency is highly recommended to be successful in this course. This course introduces students, through a hands-on approach, to the basic computer applications, which are part of the day to day operations of the funeral home.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will identify potential computer uses and applications within the funeral home management operations by:
    1. listing applications software which is created for horizontal markets.
    2. listing everyday forms used by the funeral director.
  2. The student will explain the process of selecting a computer system and software for the funeral home by:
    1. identifying types of computers used in the funeral home.
    2. identifying components of a computer.
    3. recognizing that software will determine hardware needs in the selection process.
  3. The student will demonstrate knowledge of funeral service software programs by the production of funeral documents by:
    1. preparing an arrangement conference form.
    2. preparing a death certificate.
    3. filling out veteran's benefit forms.
    4. filling out memorial folders and book.
    5. preparing a statement of funeral goods and services contract.
    6. preparing sales frequency report.
    7. preparing an obituary.
    8. preparing an insurance assignment form.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 75% demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by the individual course instructor.
