Course Description
The Fire Chief Officer course will present the principles of management theory and its application to the fire service. The course will cover topics such as communications, professional development, community and intergovernmental relations, human resources, legal issues, strategic planning, public education, budget and financial issues, and emergency management.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- Analyze the importance of leadership in the Fire Service
- Explaining the importance of effective communication during emergency and non-emergency activities.
- Identifying the importnace of continous improvement for the fire officer.
- Describing how the fire officer interacts with the community.
- Explaining intergovernmental relations and their importance.
- Evaluate the elements of Human Resource Management.
- Explaining laws and legal issues that fire departments have to follow.
- Explain strategic planning and its role in the fire service.
- Describing emergency management functions and the fire departments role
- Describing the fire departments role in code enforcement and public education
- Discuss financial issues faced by fire departments and how to manage budgets
Criteria Performance Standard
Complete coursework with a minimum of 70% accuracy.
