Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with major-related, supervised, evaluated practical training work experiences which may be paid or voluntary. Students are graded on the basis of documented learning acquired through hands-on experiences in an actual work setting. Variable credits are available, one to three per course. (Note: The student must fulfill the requirement of 60 on-the-job hours for each credit earned in addition to written assignments. This course may be taken up to 12 times for a total of 12 credits.)
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of the terminology and procedures used in the workplace by:
- recognizing the terminology used in the workplace from a given list of terms.
- explaining the procedures used in the workplace.
- (Each individual student will work with the employer and coordinator to identify and agree upon additional learning objectives.)
- The student will understand the personnel policies of the place of employment by interpreting these polices via the required written assessment at the end of the term.

- The student will apply classroom course content, including theory and skills, to a job situation by transferring terms learned in the classroom into a written report.

- The student will apply the principles of human relations skills in the work setting by:
- demonstrating appropriate skills of listening, speaking and managing emotions
- receiving a satisfactory evaluation from the employer in these areas.

- The student will evaluate his/her decisions regarding a career choice by objectively assessing the cooperative work experience in relation to career choice.

Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives.
