Course Description
This course is an introduction to the requirements of the "Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)" as it relates to the design of new and the renovation of existing buildings.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will recognize special needs of people with disabilities by:
- discussing the history of laws dealing with accessibility to buildings.
- defining "Who is a disabled person?", with respect the ADA.
- The student will be aware of the general requirements of the "Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)" by:
- interpreting the ADA in given situations with 90% accuracy.
- discussing the legal ramifications of the ADA, including civil law.
- The student will be aware of some specific requirements of the "Americans with Disabilities Act" by:
- interpreting the ADA in given "Entry" situations with 90% accuracy.
- interpreting the ADA in given "Path of Travel" situations with 90% accuracy.
- interpreting the ADA in given "Restroom" situations with 90% accuracy.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 90% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
