Pre- or Co-requisite FSE 2120

Course Description

This course is a laboratory study of the anatomy of the human face with emphasis on developing the skills and procedures used in restorative art.

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will relate specific types of restoration to the correct embalming procedure by:
    1. performing case analysis.
    2. identifying pre-, concurrent, and post-embalming restorative art treatments.
    3. explaining embalming procedures used for restoration of a specific case.
    4. explaining the legal and moral considerations of restorative art procedures.
  2. The student will exhibit a skill in modeling which reflects the student's ability to restore a problem case by:
    1. demonstrating modeling facial features for the:
    2. nose
    3. mouth
    4. ears
    5. eyes
    6. complete face
    7. interpreting a photograph by evaluating highlights and shadows, equal and unequal facial proportions, forms of the face, and chief characteristics of each feature.
    8. applying knowledge of theories and procedures in modeling facial features.
  3. The student will apply knowledge of the use of various cosmetics, restorative treatments, materials, and equipment in restorative art by:
    1. identifying the materials and steps used for restoration of traumatic injuries.
    2. demonstrating cosmetic application to recreate natural color.
    3. identifying cosmetics necessary to match skin color.
    4. explaining ornamental cosmetics.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 75% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through laboratory measures developed by individual course instructors.
