Course Description
This is an advanced course of Autodesk Revit to create, design and produce construction and schematic drawings of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of a building project. Topics include the techniques used to create architectural building drawings to include an overview of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process, including the design integration of the various building disciplines: architectural, interior design, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP). (Note: MAC computers are not recommended for ETD courses.)
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will describe the techniques used to create 3D architectural building models by:
- developing a project using the Revit project manager.
- creating multiple design options using the display and design manager.
- applying basic and advanced structure commands to building applications.
- applying the Revit three-dimensional commands to aid in the construction of three-dimensional objects.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the project process for creating construction drawings for a building project by:
- applying steps in sequence for creating schematic drawings.
- determining the general scope, preliminary design, scale, and relationship among the components of the project.
- determining and developing a project schedule.
- outlining a commissioning strategy plan.
- The student will understand the project process for creating schematic drawings for a building project by:
- gathering both graphic and written information about the project.
- creating working drawings that are used in the actual building of the project.
- developing detailed information about everything in the project.
- producing a comprehensive set of construction drawings, knowledge of design and building methods for the project.
- The student will apply the advanced building components by:
- creating and selecting building components and building elements for the project.
- building, moving, and copying building components.
- editing components from a selection.
- aligning elements and working with building components.
- The student will apply the structural components by:
- creating structural walls.
- creating structural columns.
- adding structural beams and braces.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of sharing projects by using the Revit Worksets with other students by:
- creating a project Worksets.
- subdividing the building model into Worksets.
- creating a central file.
- creating a local file.
- dividing up Worksets between students.
- The student will identify the use of BIM by:
- collecting information that covers geometry, spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information, quantities and properties of building components.
- creating three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling for a project model.
- developing a model to increase productivity in building design and construction.
- generating and managing building date during its life cycle.
- The student will apply the use of MEP by:
- optimizing the MEP system components through data-driven system sizing and design analysis.
- using BIM to improve the MEP design.
- designing a process that enhances building mechanical, electrical and plumbing concepts for a building project.
- streamlining the design process and utilization of CAD data to increase productivity, cost effectiveness modification, and editing of project schedules.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
