Course Description
This course is designed to give practical experience in public school classrooms to teacher candidates. Candidates work directly with classroom teachers in the field where they wish to become certified. Through a coaching model, the candidates will develop competencies relating to instruction, evaluation, classroom management, professional behaviors, and teacher ethics. Students spend a minimum of sixty (60) school-based hours (SBH) in the classroom in the area of certification.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The teacher candidate will design effective delivery of accurate content within the individual’s field of certification by:
- examining current curriculum materials in their field.
- reviewing current research on curriculum issues in their field.
- utilizing research-based, effective structures for lesson planning with emphasis on differentiated learning practices.
- The teacher candidate will employ effective, research-based teaching strategies appropriate to their field of certification by:
- implementing recognized instructional best practices for student success.
- utilizing essential skills including communication, questioning, giving effective feedback, and engaging students in the learning experience.
- working collaboratively with the education community to ensure continuity with the school and district mission.
- The teacher candidate will reflect upon professional growth by:
- setting professional goals to improve their teaching practice.
- self-evaluating a recorded lesson.
- using behavioral data to address challenging student behavior in their field experience.
- evaluating their progress toward achieving their professional goals.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 75% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
