Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will implement English language arts instructional methods by:
- developing activities to teach the elements of children’s literature.
- researching effective approaches for teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing through English language arts.
- analyzing quality children’s literature based on given state standards for primary and intermediate levels of learners that includes both narrative and informational texts.
- evaluating children’s literature and text sets qualitatively for text complexity.
- developing lessons and activities based on children’s literature.
- The student will implement social studies instructional methods by:
- integrating a read aloud text with a social studies topic (U.S history, World history, geography, economics, civics,) to teach content knowledge.
- explaining 21st century themes, core subjects, and skills.
- analyzing strategies for integrating social studies instruction through English language arts and/or the creative arts.
- The student will examine how to integrate the creative arts into the elementary classroom by:
- critiquing a virtual or live field trip highlighting local resources.
- developing a social studies and English language arts unit plan that integrates creative arts activities.
- discussing effective ways to use the creative arts in thematic instruction of content.
- The student will produce a plan for cultivating a safe, encouraging and learning focused environment through an integrated unit plan by:
- extending content instruction through multisensory experiences.
- applying ESOL and ESE teaching methods and principles.
- analyzing effective, research-based practices to support all students.
- The student will create an interdisciplinary unit plan using a thematic approach by:
- identifying a theme for the plan that integrates social studies, the language arts, children’s literature, and the creative arts.
- applying current state adopted standards.
- developing daily content objectives within the unit.
- integrating literary and informational text, including primary and secondary sources.
- incorporating technology into one or more lessons.
- including a variety of activities to promote active learning.
- constructing effective accommodations for English learners, gifted, and exceptional students daily.
