Course Description
This course addresses curriculum alignment, assessment of learning gains, and technologies available to teach students with exceptionalities. Course topics also include community, advocacy and professional organizations to support the needs of students with varying exceptionalities.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- Students will develop and implement effective academic instruction for exceptional students with mild to moderate abilities by:
- Selecting and justifying the use of print and non-print materials used for instructional delivery.
- Selecting and justifying the use of evidence-based instructional strategies and approaches used for instructional delivery.
- Selecting and justifying the use of differentiated approaches to instructional delivery including individualized accommodations and modifications.
- Listing procedures for grouping strategies as it relates to instructional delivery.
- Students will develop and implement effective academic instruction for exceptional students with profound abilities by:
- Selecting and justifying the use of differentiated approaches to instructional delivery including individualized accommodations and modifications.
- Selecting and justifying the use of specialized instructional strategies for students with low incidence disabilities.
- Selecting and justifying the use of evidence-based instructional strategies and approaches used for instructional delivery.
- Students will create agency linkages in order to identify resources to support students with exceptionalities by:
- Selecting, researching and reporting information regarding a professional advocacy organization with a focus on students with exceptionalities.
- Completing an oral presentation to distribute professional advocacy organization resources.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will, with a minimum of 75% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
