Course Description
This is a capstone course. This is a video production course designed to introduce the concepts of advanced videography. Students will be exposed to different types of prosumer video cameras, composition styles, lighting techniques and safety concerns. Professional video editing skills will also be taught. Special emphasis will be given to creating complicated video projects with fixed deadlines. Before course completion, students will be able to demonstrate an ability to organize, video tape, and edit complicated video productions for on-air or large presentation purposes.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
The student will demonstrate a hands-on ability to operate sophisticated videotape camera equipment by:
manipulating technical functions of a camera.
illustrating proper handling and maintenance of a camera.
The student will demonstrate an understanding of how to shoot professional videotape for video presentations by:
composing shots and lighting subjects for videotaping.
making appropriate judgmental direction in shot interpretation including creative, motivational story telling and safety concerns.
The student will demonstrate an understanding of professional terms currently in use in the video production industry by:
explaining the communication processes that are specific to a packaged videotaped presentation.
explaining the communication processes that are specific to live or look live videotape presentation.
The student will demonstrate an ability to safely execute video production shoots by:
applying an awareness of several related safety issues including high voltage, transportation, weather and public concerns.
applying an awareness of the need to protect expensive field television equipment.
The student will demonstrate an ability to work effectively within a team to complete an assigned videotape project by:
creating interaction to develop group goals.
delegating project responsibilities and supporting team initiatives.
The student will demonstrate an ability to edit video tape to form a complicated video project by:
manipulating the technical functions of an off-line computer editor.
applying technical functions to create complicated video projects.
applying professional techniques to refine editing skills.
The student will demonstrate an understanding of how to organize a complicated video project by:
applying time management skills.
applying professional techniques to refine production skills.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
