Course Description
This is a video production course designed to introduce the concepts of basic videography. Students will be exposed to different types of pro-sumer video cameras, composition styles, lighting techniques and safety concerns. Students will have the opportunity to learn hands-on, how to operate digital and analog television cameras. They will learn to combine all of these aspects of production into shooting professional videotape for edited video presentations.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
  1. The student will demonstrate a hands-on ability to operate sophisticated videotape camera equipment by:
    1. manipulating technical functions of a camera.
    2. proper handling and maintenance of a camera.
  2. The student will understand how to shoot professional videotape for video presentations by:
    1. composing shots and lighting subjects for videotaping.
    2. making appropriate judgmental direction in shot interpretation including creative motivational story telling and safety concerns.
  3. The student will understand professional terms currently in use in the video production industry by:
    1. explaining the communication processes that are specific to a packaged videotaped presentation.
    2. explaining the communication processes that are specific to live or look live videotape presentation.
  4. The student will safely execute video production shoots by:
    1. showing an awareness of several related safety issues including, high voltage, transportation, weather and public concerns.
    2. showing an awareness of protecting expensive field television equipment.
  5. The student will work effectively within a team to complete an assigned videotape project by:
    1. creating interaction to develop group goals.
    2. delegating project responsibilities and supporting team initiatives.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
