Course Description
Exploration of digital vector and raster based illustration and design. Students synthesize traditional drawing and illustration skills with digital tools. Includes study of digital imaging, drawing systems, color theory, and idea generation.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
  1. Students will learn to effectively generate digital imagery by:
    1. creating original digital images using digital drawing and illustration techniques
    2. developing original digital images using digital drawing and illustration techniques
  2. Students will create original digital compositions by:
    1. applying masking techniques
    2. designing photo composites
    3. implementing precise color adjustments
  3. Students will implement digital imagery through:
    1. creating and modifying vector and bitmap images
    2. adapting traditional drawing and illustration skills into a digital environment
    3. implementing a process for generating concepts and design variations
  4. Students will illustrate and render images for 2-D design by:
    1. using strategies to create 3-D design on a 2-D canvas
    2. applying channels, masks, and a range of selection tools for editing and compositing images
    3. applying fundamental lighting strategies
    4. creating flexible design structures for creating color and shape studies
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
