This course prepares the incoming student for the basic skills needed for success in Digital Media and Internet & Web programs. It is highly recommended that students have a basic level of competency in utilizing computer input devices such as a computer keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen.

The student will demonstrate proficiency in terminology that applies to Digital Arts, Digital Media and Internet & Web Design programs.

The student will demonstrate proficiency in computer file management.
by creating and saving digital files and folders on a computer or other digital device.
The student will demonstrate proficiency in understanding the role of modern technologies as applied to interactive digital technology disciplines.
by differentiating the use of color between video and computer applications.

by identifying the types of compression formats for audio
The student will demonstrate proficiency in the logical reasoning required to write computer programs.
by creating and documenting a simple computer program.
The student will identify the different operating systems as applied to digital technology.
by naming the most popular operating systems and the platforms in which they are used.
The student will identify the different software needed to perform various digital media tasks.
by creating an image using a computer graphics program
by creating a video with sound track using a basic video recording program.

The student will demonstrate an understanding of differences in various types of computers including servers, desktop computers, mobile devices and the importance of addressing those differences as they apply to the interactive digital media technologies.
by using a desktop (or laptop) computer to move files between a server and a local computer using applicable software
by using desktop computers and mobile devices to test the output of digital video screens
by using a mobile device to test the output of computer-generated screens on such devices
by correctly identifying the universal resource locators for files the student moves to the world wide web.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through consistent classroom measures developed by departmental course instructors.
