Course Description

This course consists of supervised clinical experience in a full service veterinary clinic and/or emergency clinic approved by the instructor. (Note: A minimum of 100 hours is required, at least 40 of which must be performed in an emergency clinic.)

Learning Outcomes and Objectives

  1. The student will demonstrate the routine duties of technicians in a veterinary clinical setting by:
    1. identifying and comparing the various duties of technicians in a veterinary facility, specifically emergency clinic.
    2. exhibiting professional attitudes and behaviors.
    3. reporting on emergency clinic policies.
  2. The student will prepare for the Veterinary Technician National Exam by:
    1. reviewing all content areas addressed on the exam and identifying weak areas.
    2. demonstrating the procedure for how to register for the exam.
    3. discussing the credentialing requirements for their state.

Criteria Performance Standard

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will, with minimum 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by the individual course instructors.
