Course Description
This course is an introduction to medical terminology and veterinary terminology. Included is an introduction to the foundation of veterinary and medical language such as word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and combining forms.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate an understanding and proper usage of basic medical and veterinary terminology by:
- defining veterinary terms as they apply to body structure, systems, diseases, and selected domestic animal species.
- employing veterinary terms as they apply to body structure, systems, diseases, and selected domestic animal species in written and oral assignments.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the meanings of specific medical and veterinary word roots, suffixes, prefixes, and combining forms by:
- deriving the meaning of medical and veterinary terms.
- analyzing the word roots, prefixes, and suffixes.
- recognizing terms created through combining forms.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
