Course Description
This course is a study of the technical clinical aspects of laboratory animal care, including restraint and handling, common diseases, and nutrition of common laboratory species.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of restraint, medication, handling, nutrition, reproduction, collection of blood samples, anesthesia, sex identification, and care of common diseases of the common laboratory species by:
- employing proper techniques for restraint and handling.
- examining the nutrition and care of the common laboratory species.
- identifying common diseases of and medications used with the common laboratory species.
- The student will demonstrate an understanding of common laboratory organizations, laboratory animal regulations, and laboratory animal facility requirements by:
- investigating and analyzing these topics.
- explaining their findings in oral and written reports in individual and group settings.
Criteria Performance Standard
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
